Malick Sidibé x Zainab Sumu
I am honored and extremely fortunate to have collaborated with the late photographer on this collection of limited edition t-shirts.
Malick Sidibé (1936 – 2016) was a Malian photographer noted for his black-and-white studies of 1960s pop culture in Bamako, the capital of Mali. In his lifetime, Sidibé gained an international following, and was considered Mali's most famous photographer. His work was the subject of a number of publications and exhibited throughout Europe and the United States. In 2007, he became the first photographer and African to receive a Golden Lion award for Lifetime achievement at the Venice Biennale.
Sidibé’s legacy continues through his sons, Mody and Karim Sidibé, who manage his archives and continue to photograph youth in Bamako.
